Local SEO vs National SEO

What you'll learn:Why local is easier to dominateHow proximity works in Google's systemHow to show up in more cities the right way

Local SEO vs National SEO

National SEO means competing against every business in the country for broad keywords. Local SEO means competing against the 5 to 10 businesses in your city. One of these is much easier to win. This lesson is about why local is your biggest opportunity.

Why Local Is Easier to Dominate

If you're a screen repair company in Sarasota, you're not competing with companies in Chicago. You're competing with maybe 5 to 8 local businesses. Most of them have weak Google Business Profiles, few reviews, and old websites.

The bar is lower than you think. Steady, focused local SEO work puts you ahead of 80% of your competition within a few months, not years.

How Proximity Works

Google's local system has three main factors:

  • Relevance -- Does your profile match the search?
  • Distance -- How close are you to the person searching?
  • Prominence -- How well-known and trusted is your business?

You can't control where someone is standing when they search. But you can control relevance and prominence. Both can be built on purpose.

How to Show Up in More Cities the Right Way

You can't lie about your location. But you can build the right assets to show up in multiple areas without doing anything shady.

How to do it:

  • Build separate pages targeting each city you serve ("Screen Repair in Bradenton," "Screen Repair in Venice")
  • Set up a second Google Business Profile if you have a real address or service area in another city
  • Use your website to tell Google your service radius
  • Get listed in city-specific directories and local listings

When done right, you show up in results for cities beyond your main location because you've built real content and profiles for those areas.

This is exactly what the multi-brand and multi-site approach is built on.
