Google Business Profile Domination
Your Google Business Profile (GBP) is not a yellow pages listing. It is the most powerful free ranking tool you have. Most businesses set it up once and forget it. That's a big missed opportunity.
Categories: Your #1 Ranking Signal
Your primary category tells Google exactly what type of business you are. Pick the wrong one and you'll never rank for your best keywords.
Primary category = your single most important service. Be specific. "Screen Enclosure Contractor" beats "General Contractor" every time.
Secondary categories = other services you offer. Add everything that applies. Each category opens up new search terms you can rank for.
Action item: Log into your GBP right now. Check your primary category. Is it the most specific option available? Change it if not.
Services Setup: The Hidden Ranking Factor
Most businesses fill in their hours and call it done. The Services section is where rankings are actually built.
For every service you offer:
- Add it as a service
- Write a short description using the exact words your customers search for
- Be specific ("pool screen repair" not just "repairs")
Google uses this info to match you to searches. An empty services section is leaving rankings on the table.
How Google Reads Your Listing
Google looks at your GBP like a report card. It checks:
- Completeness -- Is every section filled out?
- Consistency -- Does your name, address, and phone match what's on your website?
- Activity -- Are you posting updates? Answering questions? Getting new reviews?
- Keywords -- Are your services and description using the words customers actually search?
A complete, active, well-written GBP can rank in the top 3 without any paid ads.
