City Domination Strategy
Most businesses think of their "market" as one big area. Google doesn't think that way. Google thinks city by city, neighborhood by neighborhood. Understanding this changes how you grow.
Why Every City Is Its Own Market
When someone in Bradenton searches "screen repair near me," Google shows them Bradenton results, not Sarasota results, even if Sarasota is 20 minutes away.
Each city has its own Google Maps results. Its own top-ranking GBPs. Its own top-ranking websites.
That means every city you want to show up in needs its own plan, its own assets, and its own presence.
How to Expand Into Nearby Areas
Step 1: Build city-specific pages Create pages on your website targeting "[service] in [city]." These pages need real written content, not just a template with the city name swapped out.
Step 2: Get listed in that city Yelp, Angi, HomeAdvisor, local chamber pages -- make sure your business info shows up in listings tied to that area.
Step 3: Get reviews that mention the city When customers from that city leave reviews and mention their location, Google takes note that you serve that area.
Step 4: Consider a second GBP If you have a real address or service location in another city, a second GBP is a huge advantage.
What Makes a City Worth Targeting
Not every city has enough people searching to be worth a full push. Ask yourself:
- Are people actually searching for my service there?
- How strong are the current top GBP listings in that city?
- Is the average job size worth the drive and the effort?
- Can my team actually serve this area at a profit?
Start with the closest cities that have the weakest competition. Win those first, then keep going.
